If you thought that filing bankruptcy after a divorce would miraculously make your alimony or child support disappear, think again. Support obligations are not dischargeable in a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy.
This includes child support, alimony and any other support obligation that may arise at the legal conclusion of a relationship.
If you are overburdened by child support payments bankruptcy may still be able to help. By discharging your other debt or making affordable payments for your other debt, it may free up money for you to pay child support and have breathing room.
