Texas Bankruptcy Exemptions

There are many debtor exemptions available in Texas that are not available in other states. Below is a list of some of the most common and beneficial:

Wages – With the exception of domestic support obligations such as child support, current wages for earned for work are wholly exempt under the bankruptcy code.

Motor Vehicles – Each family member or single adult holding a drivers license may claim an exemption of one two, three or four-wheeled vehicles.   That means if there are 4 family members who hold drivers license, four vehicles may be exempted.

Home furnishings – Generally may be included as an exemption.

Tools of trades – Including tools, books, boats and motor vehicles, may be exempted under the Texas Property Code.
