Can Bankruptcy Keep me Out of College?

No.  Individuals who file for bankruptcy are protected against discrimination, similar to racial, class or gender discrimination. An individual who has filed for bankruptcy has the same opportunity to attend a college or university as someone who has not.   Further, it is not common practice for college admissions committees to run credit or background checks on individuals seeking to attend college.

Debtors are considered a protected class by federal law. The millions of  individuals who have filed bankruptcy in the U.S. represent a broad range of Americans who go on to lead full lives and pursue their goals.
