According to a poll conducted by filingforbankruptcyonline.com, most people who filed for bankruptcy in recent years are between the ages of 35-44 and have at least some college. Perhaps most surprising, 18-24 year olds and those who have no formal education are the least likely to file for bankruptcy. The poll also found that lower income individuals ($20,000 - $30,000 annually) made up the bulk of filers and those making $60,000 or more annually were least likely to file. Blacks and whites are more likely to file for bankruptcy than other ethinic groups. Further divorcees are more likely to file than singles or married couples and most survey participants were unemployed at the time of filing.
