Abusive Debt Collection Practices

Many Americans know the shame and frustration that comes along with not being able to meet your financial obligation.  One manifestation is the dreaded debt collection call.  While many debt collectors are just trying to do their job by calling and asking you when you will be able to repay your debt, many times these collection attempts turn menacing and harassing.  As the saying goes, you can’t squeeze blood from a turnip.  If you do not have additional funds to cover your debts, they simply cannot get paid.

Federal legislators have recognized that debt collectors often go to far in their attempts to collect a debt, which led to the enactment of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  Many practices that used to be commonplace among debt collectors are now off-limits, including calling at all hours of the night and morning, using abusive language and threatening criminal punishment.  Filing bankruptcy immediately causes debt collection to cease.  The attorneys at the Fears | Nachawati Law Firm are experienced in creditor dealings and can put a stop to abusive debt collection practices.
