Will Bankruptcy Keep me out of College?

Absolutely not. College admissions applications are prohibited by federal law to discriminate against protected classes, such as an individual that has filed for Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 protection. Additionally, colleges typically do not consider an individual's financial background when making decisions on admission. Even when considering financial aid, bankruptcy will not keep you out. Grants, scholarships and federal loans do not factor in credit score or prior bankruptcies. Unless a student is taking out a private loan from a bank, credit score will not be factored in.
