In Texas, qualifying homesteads are exempt from liquidation. Under the Texas Property Code a home that is used as a primary residence is exempt. The debtor must continue to pay the mortgage, however the Code does provide some protections.
In addition to keeping your home, you are also entitled to keep some of the personal property in and around your home such as furnishings and your primary vehicle. If you decide to sell your house you may also be able to keep most of the proceeds from the sale.
