Will my bankruptcy be published in my local newspaper?

Although a bankruptcy filing is a matter of public record and is available to the public via court dockets, it is highly unlikely that your bankruptcy will be published in the local newspaper. One reason is because of volume. Over 1.5 million bankruptcies were filed between June 2009 and June 2010. The majority of these were filed in populous major cities with pressing local news taking up much of the newspaper.
In smaller towns and more rural areas with more news space bankruptcies are sometimes reported. Also some business circulations publish individual bankruptcies as a matter of routine. However this is not a common practice for small bankruptcies in large metropolitan areas such as Dallas-Fort Worth. It is important to note however that legal proceedings, including bankruptcy, are available to the public via the United States Courts website for a nominal fee.
